James Nogueira, 93,

James Nogueira, 93, a lifelong Milford resident passed peacefully at home on Oct. 1st surrounded by his family. He was born and raised in the family home on Highland St., and later built his own home there as well. He was the son of Arminda (Pires) Nogueira and the late John Nogueira. He is predeceased by brothers Rico Nogueira, Joseph Nogueira, sister Gloria Dias, and infant brother John Nogueira. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Nancy, his daughter Linda Piscia, and sons James and John Nogueira. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He spent his young life working the family farm after the death of his father at age 5. He delivered milk, plowed snow for the town, and later started his own construction and excavation business Nogueira Trucking Company.

He was a member of the Milford Portuguese Club, and the Hopedale VFW. He Was trained and served as an aircraft engine mechanic on two different carriers in the U.S Navy during the Korean War, one out of San Diego, CA, and the other out of Quonset Point, RI. Like his two older brothers, who both served during WWII, Jim felt it was his duty to serve his country. He was a true patriot.  He had a lifelong love of vehicles, and all things mechanical, and often designed and altered much of his own equipment and machinery to fit his own needs. Although later in life he became interested in antique autos, his real passion had always been Midget auto racing, and he had a very long and sucessful carreer with the Northeastern Midget Association (NEMA), owning and maintaining many types of midget Racing cars throughout the years..Along with his artist wife Nancy, he also founded JaNan Gallery, a local business specializing in picture framing, art classes, and art supplies .Most important to him was his family, and he brought them together often for large gatherings at his home and his properties to keep the family ties strong. His love for them would override all in his life, for he knew his family was his most precious legacy.

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 10 A.M. at the St. Mary of the Assumption Church on Winter St. The burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery on Cedar St. A calling hour will be held prior to the funeral Mass from 8:30 to 9:30 A.M. at the Consigli Ruggerio Funeral Home 46 Water St. Milford MA.

With our love and deepest condolences as we remember our cousin Jimmy. We are thankful for having the opportunity to know him, and to experience his warmth and kindness. We hope that loving memories ease our loss and bring us all comfort.

Nancy and family: Jim is gone now, to a quiet and peaceful place where all of us will go eventually. But the memories remain, and I can say, since we met in 1965, that my memories of Jim are nothing but the best. We were both racing with NEMA at the time and when my car was badly damaged in a 1969 racing incident, Jim was the first to offer me a ride in his race car, and in fact I did drive for him several times. Over these last 58 years we have kept in touch, with never an angry word between us, but lots of laughs and great conversation. He was the finest example of a friend. The world is a poorer place when people like him leave us. Rest in peace old buddy. Joe Bowen and family

The Class of 72

Nogueira Family, My heartfelt condolences are with all of you. Jim was one of the good guys. He was the first one to check in and the last one to check out. He never complained and always strived for perfection. Always had a smile and treated me respectfully. A true gentleman and family man. I had the pleasure of working with Jim when I started my career at the highway department in 1986. I could always count on him. May you rest in peace.

So sorry for your loss. I remember Jimmy because he worked quite often with my dad, Dave Ablondi, doing bulldozer work for him and other site work. I remember seeing the race cars in his garage at his home on Highland St and being very impressed. Prayers to all. 🙏🏻 John Ablondi
