My aunt Ida was my godmother and lived with my family while my sister Rosemary and I grew up. I always could go to my aunt with my happy stories as well as my problems, and she listened with sincerity to both. After her husband Champ's death, she moved to assisted living in the Baltimore area to be near my sister who, along with Rosemary's husband John and their sons John and Jim, took care of her needs. Her last residence was St. Joseph's Nursing Home, where the sisters provided exceptional care. She thrived there, living to the age of 102. I cherish being able to talk to her over the phone recently, as pandemic restrictions have made travel from my home in Cincinnati difficult. Even though she wasn't able to respond, I was thrilled when the nursing home staff said she seemed excited to hear my voice. I'm grateful the sisters saw to it she died peacefully and with dignity. May she now be in our Lord's loving arms and reunited with her family. She will be in my heart forever.
Grace (Siegel) DeGregorio
